Project Tovegan Agbessia
Tovegan Agbessia
We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of the water well digging in Tovegan Agbessia, a vibrant village in Togo! This milestone marks a significant step towards providing clean drinking water to the local community, which has long struggled with access to safe water.
the villagers, who once relied on dirty, unsafe water sources, will now enjoy the benefits of clean, drinkable water. Our dedicated team is currently constructing the structure for the water tank house, and we aim to inaugurate this new well by late October.
Bringing Clean Water to Tovegan-Agbessia: A Life-Changing Initiative by QEWFA
At Quality Education & Water For All (QEWFA), we are driven by the belief that access to clean water and education are fundamental rights that every community deserves. In Tovegan-Agbessia—a village located in the Avé prefecture within the canton of Tovégan, approximately 10 miles from National Road No. 5 and 50 miles from the nearest urban center—these basic necessities are out of reach for many.
The Water Crisis in Tovegan-Agbessia
Tovegan-Agbessia is a resilient village with an economy rooted in agriculture, producing staples like yam, corn, and peanuts. However, its growth and the well-being of its people are severely impacted by a lack of clean water. The village once relied on a manual water well, but it has long since dried up and become contaminated.
With no viable local water source, villagers must travel up to 5 miles to collect water from a river shared with livestock. This water is unfit for human consumption, leading to widespread waterborne diseases. The impact of this crisis ripples through the community:
• Children’s Education: After long school days, children must fetch water, often sacrificing their studies and meals. Many ultimately drop out of school.
• Women and Elders: The physical strain of carrying water takes a toll, limiting their ability to focus on livelihoods and other essential tasks.
• Health Risks: Shared water sources result in contamination and disease, creating ongoing health crises for villagers.
How QEWFA is Making a Difference
QEWFA’s mission is to create sustainable solutions that address both water access and education. By constructing a solar-powered water well in Tovegan-Agbessia, we aim to:
• Provide clean and safe drinking water directly within the village.
• Alleviate the physical and time burden of fetching water, especially for women, elders, and children.
• Reduce waterborne illnesses and improve overall community health.
• Enable children to focus on their education rather than water collection.
This initiative represents not just a well, but a beacon of hope for Tovegan-Agbessia. It’s a tangible step toward breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering the community to thrive.
Beyond Water: Building a Future Together
At QEWFA, we recognize that clean water is only the beginning. Our ongoing efforts in Tovegan-Agbessia and similar villages include promoting education, health initiatives, and sustainable agricultural practices. This holistic approach ensures that clean water serves as a foundation for long-term development and prosperity.
